Weekly Piano Update

Happy Monday! Time for another piano update! I had another good week of practice. This week will not be as good as my husband is back at work – so no practice during the day. We also have family coming at the weekend, so I won’t be able to get extra piano time in.

I’m really happy with my practice this week. I wish I could spend this much time at my piano every week! I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to be so motivated but not have the time to put that motivation into action! Over 18 hours is a great figure for me,

Let’s see how I got on with my pieces.

Grade 6 pieces:

Schumann – Einsamen Blumen

I managed to finish and film this! I’m so happy. I love the piece but I’m glad to start new things.

Ben Crosland – View from a window.

I managed to finish this piece, too! It’s not on YouTube, but I’ll post it soon, maybe next week.

Friedrich Kuhlau – Allegro

This is coming along well, it’s just the scale runs are inconsistent, especially the ones on the second page. I just need to drill them lots and hopefully can get this recorded soon! It’s a bit annoying how I can sometimes do the scales well and then they are sloppy the next time.

Debussy – Page D’album

This piece is so relaxing to play! I can now play it through slowly. Need to work on the fancy parts and dynamics and speed it up. I feel good about this piece and feel like it won’t take me long.

Christian Hartmann – Nocturne

This is my latest grade 6 piece and it’s a hard one! The nocturn is beautiful but it has three voices, and it’s hard to figure out which hand should play what. I’m taking it slowly and trying to stay consistent with it. I need bigger hands!

Last of us Theme

I finished this last week! Although I did mess up the end on my recording but decided to keep it anyway. It’s over 4 minutes which is long for me, I couldn’t bare to do it again.

Plauderei – Theodor Kirchner

This is a grade 5 piece that I learnt 5 years ago. I wanted to refresh it as it’s a lovely song. I fell in love with this again when I was looking at the pieces for my 2-year progress video. I’ve managed to record this now, so I’ll get a video out soon!

Je te laisserai de mots – Patrick Watson

I started this for my sight reading challenge on Friday and I’ve decided to carry on learning it. It’s a lovely piece and I don’t anticipate it will take me too long.

So my 4 pieces I am actively working on are:

• Friedrich Kuhlau – Allegro
• Debussy – Page D’album
• Christian Hartmann – Nocturne
• Je te laisserai de mots – Patrick Watson

I don’t think I’ll have any of these finished this week due to plans but I’d love to get at least one done if possible!
