Weekly Piano Update – Rubbish Week

This was a bit crap in terms of piano and I’m not happy about it. I’ve only practised 9 hours and 21 minutes.

My son has been sick. He’s had a nasty cough/cold/chest infection and kept coughing and waking himself up. This meant I really struggled to practice when he was in bed. I was being interrupted quite often so I didn’t focus much.

I also started getting his illness at the end of the week. Plus I was very sleep-deprived due to my son’s wakeful nights. So I’ve felt quite wiped out.

We also had family visiting Friday to Sunday which mean I didn’t do my usual 3-hour practice on Friday evening while my husband was at work – and no sight-reading happened, either. On Saturday and Sunday, I also didn’t get any daytime practice in.

I really struggle with times like this as I hate feeling like my progress has been stalled.

So here’s where I am with my pieces.

Friedrich Kuhlau – Allegro

I have made a bit of a breakthrough with the scales I was struggling with. They’re not 100% consistent yet but I’m getting there.

Debussy – Page D’album

I’ve hardly done any isolated practice on this, I just play through it from start to finish. I feel like I’ve got a pretty good grip on this piece and just need to play it a bit faster.

Christian Hartmann – Nocturne

I’m getting much better at this now. I’m still not happy with my fingering on it but the speed is getting there. It’s a lovely song and nice to play!

Je te laisserai de mots – Patrick Watson

I feel like this is the song I’ve played the least. I just end to play it through a few times but I really need to do some serious practice on it and get it finished.

I mostly feel like my head hasn’t been in it this week. Due to being interrupted a lot, not having time and being sick/tired I’ve mostly just played through pieces over and over and not been as intentional or working through small sections to improve them. I need to start doing that next week.
